This course is modeled on the Core Course of Group Psychotherapy designed by the American Group Psychotherapy Association. 

Upon its completion, participants will have met the core course requirement of the National Registry of Certified Group Psychotherapy which is one of the requirements for becoming a certified group therapist. Class discussion will include didactic, experiential and discussion components, utilizing the clinical experiences of participants. Active engagement in these discussions is expected. The workshop is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, physicians, medical students, and other graduate students. This is an opportunity for professionals who would like to start psychotherapy groups or experienced group therapists who need the 15 clock hours of didactic learning to get certified as group psychotherapist.

  7. List the advanced skills needed to optimize group psychotherapy.

  9. Explain the life cycle of group and termination issues.
  10. List the qualities of effective group leaders.

  12. Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues in group psychotherapy.

Presenter Bio: 

Farooq Mohyuddin, MD is the Chair of Psychiatry training and Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program at St. Elizabeth's Hospital- DC Department of Behavioral Health. He is member faculty of the National Group Psychotherapy Institute at new Washington School of psychiatry and has been teaching about group psychotherapy for more then 20 years. He is Assistant Professor at George Washington University Department of psychiatry. He is the recipient of Harold Bernard Award from American Group Psychotherapy Association for excellence in group psychotherapy training. He taught the basic principles of group psychotherapy course at Washington School of psychiatry since 2007. He has presented and taught at multiple national conferences every year for the last several years. He is a certified group therapist.

Between 7 and 14 days prior to an event, a cancellation request in writing will result in a refund of 50% of the registration fee less a $50 administrative fee (A $200 registration will be refunded as $100 less $50 or $50). We regret that cancellation requests made 7 days or less prior to an event will not be accepted.
