September 2026 - May 2027
Meets Thursdays
Application deadline: August 15, 2026
Tuition: $2,300 per year
A two-year certificate training designed for depth, integration, and clinical confidence,
CPPP offers rigorous training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, from foundational theories to contemporary models.
This program emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, the development of critical thinking, and the value of diversity, identity, and intersectionality in clinical work. Students benefit from long-term cohort relationships, expert faculty, and individualized supervision.
By including courses on early approaches, such as ego psychology, object relations, and self-psychology – as well as more contemporary subjects, such as attachment theory, neurobiology, and relational theories – the curriculum allows for an understanding of the evolution of psychodynamic thought, its application to individual, couple, and group therapy, and its relevance to today’s world.
CPPP instructors value the development of critical thinking skills in regard to all material and teach through a lens that addresses diversities of social identities and intersectionality. Throughout the program, students receive feedback on clinical cases through both group discussions in class and individual supervision with a seasoned practitioner. Students remain with the same cohort throughout the two years, which allows for open, supportive discussions and the growth of enduring collegial relationships.
This program is designed for mental health professionals who want to deepen their psychodynamic thinking and expand their clinical skills through thoughtful, rigorous training. CPPP may be right for you if:
- You’re a social worker, psychologist, counselor, or psychotherapist seeking a comprehensive foundation in psychodynamic theory and its clinical application
- You’re interested in learning how diverse schools of thought – from ego psychology to relational theory – influence the way we work with individuals, couples, and groups
- You value supervision, community, and critical thinking as essential parts of your growth as a clinician
- You’re looking for a supportive, engaged cohort experience where you’ll build lasting relationships and receive meaningful case feedback
- You’re curious about how identity, intersectionality, and culture shape the therapeutic experience – and want a program that teaches with that lens in mind
- You want to train with experienced, actively practicing clinicians who know how to bridge theory with the realities of today’s clinical work
This is a professional journey with the kind of guidance, reflection, and support that shapes confident, thoughtful psychotherapists.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of major psychodynamic theories, including ego psychology, object relations, self psychology, relational theory, attachment theory, and neurobiology.
- Apply these frameworks to clinical work with individuals, couples, and groups across a range of presenting issues.
- Critically assess clinical material through multiple theoretical lenses, developing a more nuanced and flexible therapeutic approach.
- Integrate considerations of identity, culture, and intersectionality into clinical formulations and treatment planning.
- Engage in reflective practice with peer support and skilled supervision, using case material to grow clinical insight and strengthen professional judgment.
- Develop a deeper understanding of the therapeutic relationship,
- Build a lasting community of peers and mentors, fostering professional connection, dialogue, and support.
This program fosters both intellectual rigor and emotional depth – equipping clinicians to do their best, most thoughtful work in an ever-changing therapeutic landscape.
We will meet Thursdays at 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm ET from September 2026 - May 2027.
- In-person meetings will be held over the academic year.
- Classes will be on Thursday evenings.
Tuition is $2,300 per year. Partial scholarships available for demonstrated need.
